Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. Location: Milpitas, California, United States

You will work closely with electronics packaging, systems integration, and optical teams to support PsiQuantum’s mission to deliver million-qubit quantum computers for real-world impact.

Duties:

• Design and qualify mechanical and electro-optical subsystems for quantum hardware.
• Support system architecture development at the sub-system level;
• Lead large or complex design efforts with ownership of scope, quality, and delivery.
• Collaborate across mechanical, electrical, optical, fabrication, and packaging teams.
• Create and maintain CAD designs, BOMs, build standards, and process documentation.
• Perform tolerance analysis, risk analysis, and basic structural simulations.
• Design and fabricate fixtures and test setups for hardware validation.
• Manage builds using PDM systems and support workflow documentation in MES.
• Present technical updates and design reviews to internal stakeholders;
• Mentor junior engineers and support team knowledge sharing.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience, with 10 years preferred.
• Strong mechanical design and analysis skills, including GD&T;
• Experience with design for manufacturing and volume production processes.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
• Experience working on complex hardware systems involving silicon photonics and cryogenic environments is highly valued.

Benefits and Instructions:

• U.S. base salary range: $140,000–$153,000 USD.
• Bay Area salary range: $170,000–$187,000 USD.
