Superconducting IC Designer

Job Description

Job Title: Superconducting IC Designer (Intermediate, Senior, or Staff). Location: Burnaby, Canada

You will work at the core of hardware innovation, improving and developing new superconducting devices & tools that support both annealing and gate-model quantum computers.

Duties:

  • Design and model superconducting integrated circuits used in quantum processors.
  • Work on components such as Josephson junctions, SQUIDs, SFQ gates, QFPs, resonators, and qubits.
  • Use and refine custom EDA toolchains to improve performance and design processes;
  • Perform analytical and numerical simulations to study superconducting devices;
  • Conduct layout and verification to ensure designs meet manufacturing standards.
  • Analyze the impact of surrounding systems like packaging, electronics, and cryogenic elements on device performance.
  • Collaborate closely with scientists and designers in the Processor Development group.
  • Debug complex technical issues and enhance existing software design infrastructure;
  • Document and communicate IC design concepts and progress with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in Electronic Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in IC design, preferably with analog or RF circuit design in an R&D environment.
  • Understanding of electromagnetic theory and its application to superconducting devices.
  • Strong programming skills and ability to collaborate on shared codebases;
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, persistence, and creativity in technical challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • For Intermediate level: Graduate degree with 0–2 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 2–4 years;
  • For Senior level: Proven leadership on design projects, 5+ years of experience, and knowledge of EDA tools and simulation systems.
  • For Staff level: Domain expertise in superconducting circuits, experience managing large IC design projects, and leadership in cross-team collaboration.

    • Intermediate: 90,182 – 135,273 CAD per year
    • Senior: 107,636 – 161,455 CAD per year
    • Staff: 127,273 – 190,909 CAD per year
