Systems Test Engineer

Job Description

Job title: Senior Systems Test Engineer. Location: British Columbia, Canada (Onsite)

Responsibilities:

  • Design, engineer, and execute tests and benchmarking for quantum computers developed by Photonic.
  • Implement scalable Python code that interfaces with distributed quantum hardware systems.
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites covering functionality, performance, stability, and scalability;
  • Develop testing strategies that measure system performance and generate critical metrics for system evaluation.
  • Identify and solve complex system-level problems to ensure reliable operation of large-scale quantum systems.
  • Explore new testing approaches for debugging and performance analysis.
  • Suggest improvements to both hardware and software stacks based on system-level findings.
  • Support troubleshooting and debugging efforts across engineering and scientific teams;
  • Collaborate with scientists, product engineers, and other technical teams working on quantum technologies.
  • Contribute to test coverage metrics, quality gates, and release criteria for internal milestones and customer deliveries.
  • Clearly communicate technical challenges and solutions to cross-functional teams.

Qualifications:

  • MSc or MEng in physics, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent education with at least 5 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong programming skills with experience in Python and shared code repositories.
  • Experience working with complex laboratory instrumentation and sensitive measurement systems.
  • Experience building automation for measurements, testing workflows, and report generation;
  • Strong systems engineering mindset and ability to solve problems in complex and evolving environments.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and debugging abilities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in collaborative environments.
  • Demonstrated creativity in solving difficult technical challenges;
  • Experience working with distributed quantum computing systems or quantum technologies is considered a plus.

  • Base annual salary range of 134,200 CAD to 184,600 CAD depending on experience, education, location, and other factors.
