Job Description
Job Title: Cryogenics Engineer. Location: Fremont, CA, USA
This hands-on role involves operating, troubleshooting, and assembling cryogenic and vacuum systems while collaborating closely with physicists, engineers and technicians to advance quantum computing technologies.
Duties:
- Operate, service, and maintain cryogenic equipment including scroll pumps, turbo pumps, cryo compressors, and high-vacuum valves.
- Assemble, validate, and install complex electro-mechanical, cryogenic, vacuum, and RF systems with attention to detail.
- Test and debug custom control systems and advanced RF components using electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and multimeters.
- Develop, execute, and participate in test plans for next-generation RF and cryogenic hardware;
- Support cryogenic systems on-call in rotation with the team.
- Prepare, inspect, and package quantum chip assemblies for testing.
- Read and interpret CAD drawings and engineering specifications;
- Support external system installations and collaborate with customers and partners, including occasional travel up to 10%.
- Follow and adapt standard operating procedures and best practices for cryogenic and RF systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering, or equivalent industrial/military experience; MS or PhD preferred.
- Substantial lab experience with sub-Kelvin cryogenic equipment and dilution refrigerators;
- Experience with assembling, servicing, and maintaining scientific instruments or complex electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Proficiency with electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, network analyzers, multimeters, and power supplies.
- Programming experience with Python or related scripting languages is a strong plus;
- Familiarity with vacuum plumbing, P&ID, standard fittings, and industrial lab equipment.
- Strong communication, documentation, and troubleshooting skills.
