Error Correction Research Scientist Intern

Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Error Correction Research Scientist Intern - Fall 2026. Location: Remote, California, USA

Responsibilities:

  • Develop automated quantum error-correcting code discovery protocols and research pipelines
  • Use AI and machine learning techniques to identify and optimize high-performance quantum error-correcting codes
  • Design and implement machine learning models for code discovery and decoder development
  • Develop neural-network-based decoders for topological and QLDPC quantum codes;
  • Improve decoding accuracy, scalability, and adaptability for quantum computing systems
  • Build methods to evaluate quantum error-correcting codes while incorporating physical hardware constraints
  • Analyze and simulate fault-tolerant quantum circuits used for quantum memory and logical operations
  • Evaluate the performance of quantum error correction schemes using simulation and analysis tools

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of quantum computing fundamentals;
  • Knowledge of quantum error correction, stabilizer codes, coding theory, and decoders
  • Proficiency in Python or a similar scientific programming language
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and documentation skills

Preferred:

  • Experience with tensor network, state vector, or quantum circuit simulation methods
  • Experience developing neural-network-based quantum error correction decoders
  • Knowledge of topological codes and QLDPC codes
  • Familiarity with qubit loss, leakage, and non-Pauli noise mechanisms
  • Experience incorporating noise models into code and decoder design;
  • Experience with magic state preparation, distillation, or factory design
  • Experience analyzing decoding performance and fault-tolerant quantum systems
  • Experience using NVIDIA quantum software such as cuQuantum or CUDA-Q
  • Experience with GPU-accelerated quantum simulation platforms

  • Hourly pay ranging from $20 to $71 per hour
