Interconnect Research & Development Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Interconnect Research and Development Engineer, Quantum AI. Location: Goleta, CA, USA

This role covers the full life-cycle from R&D and fabrication to manufacturing transfer, supporting Google’s mission to build large-scale error-corrected quantum computers; You will collaborate with internal teams, academic partners, and industry leaders to advance quantum hardware integration.

Duties:

• Research and develop advanced interconnects and connector technologies for integrating cryogenic devices and quantum processor components.
• Create and execute test plans to evaluate signal density, electrical, mechanical, thermal performance, manufacturing yield, and reliability;
• Develop, characterize, and tool fabrication, manufacturing, and assembly processes while specifying and purchasing equipment for development and production.
• Document and transfer new processes to in-house manufacturing teams or external production partners;
• Collaborate with internal Google Quantum AI teams, academia, and industry to validate and refine interconnect technologies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related specialized field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 6 years in characterizing electronics or interconnect hardware performance, reliability, and yield.;
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process engineering or manufacturing in semiconductor and interconnect technologies, including photolithography, thin film deposition, electroplating, etching, PCB, or connector manufacturing;
• Minimum of 6 years of experience with electrical connectors, MEMS, or advanced packaging, including design, development, and testing.
• Master’s or PhD in a related field preferred;
• Familiarity with cryogenic systems, nanofabrication, and advanced quantum hardware assembly.

Benefits and Instructions:

• Base salary range: $174,000–$258,000 per year, plus bonus, equity, and full benefits.
