Physicist - Resilience Engineering

Job Description

Job Title: Physicist - Resilience Engineering and Operations. Location: Basel, Switzerland

This position includes training, cross-team collaboration, and direct involvement in improving system reliability and uptime; The work takes place onsite at Quantum Basel with some flexibility for remote work.

Duties:

• Maintain, monitor, and improve commercial trapped-ion quantum computers to ensure strong uptime and system reliability.
• Support customer-facing performance and continuously improve the user experience;
• Automate system functions to optimize overall performance;
• Work closely with physicists and engineers to develop tools that support current and future systems.
• Join follow-the-sun on-call rotations to keep systems operating at peak performance.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in physics, engineering, or a related physical science.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work within a distributed team;
• Hands-on experience with optical alignment, laser stabilization, or AOMs.
• Understanding of statistics through training or education.
• Ability to adapt to changing technical environments;
• Willingness to work flexible hours within a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule.
• At least one year of laboratory experience in atomic or optical physics.

Preferred:

• PhD in physics, engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with Python or Javascript;
• Background in data analysis, data science, or machine learning.
• Prior experience in software engineering.
