Staff Supplier Quality Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Staff Supplier Quality Engineer. Location: Bothell, Washington, USA; College Park, Maryland, USA

You will work with manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain teams to maintain a strong Quality Management System & ensure suppliers meet IonQ’s standards for critical materials and parts.

Duties:

  • Lead supplier selection and qualification activities, including on-site audits and assessments.
  • Monitor supplier performance and drive improvement in quality, delivery, and reliability.
  • Build and implement processes for incoming material inspection, supplier audits, and change management.
  • Execute incoming inspection and document procedures for future operational use;
  • Develop Supplier Quality KPIs to measure supplier performance and track improvement efforts.
  • Conduct audits to assess supplier quality systems and manufacturing capability.
  • Manage the Supplier Corrective Action Request process and lead root-cause analysis and problem resolution.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing in Qualification Review Board activities and manage qualification of materials, parts, and processes.
  • Represent Supplier Quality on the Change Control Board and lead supplier-related process changes;
  • Support continuous improvement activities within the supply chain and maintain strong supplier relationships.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of eight years of supplier quality, manufacturing, or manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field;
  • Strong background in failure analysis, corrective actions, and process control.
  • ERP or MRP system experience, preferably Oracle NetSuite.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001.
  • Experience with structured quality tools such as Six Sigma or 8D;
  • Ability to explain data and requirements clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in high-technology environments and with optical, electrical, or mechanical systems.
  • Understanding of compliance matters, ITAR, and data collection tools such as PowerBI.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as ANSI, CMMI, and ASTM;
  • Familiarity with ESD, calibration, and preventive maintenance.
  • Experience with reliability engineering concepts.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive improvement;
  • Experience with ISO 14001 or environmental and safety management systems.
  • Ability to work well with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.

Benefits and Instructions:

  • Base salary range is $123,191 to $161,289, plus bonus and equity.
  • Compensation varies by location, experience, and skill level;
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401K matching, unlimited PTO, paid holidays, parental leave, legal insurance, home internet stipend, and pet insurance.
  • Travel requirement is 25 to 50 percent for supplier visits.
  • Work location is Bothell, WA or College Park, MD, with preference for Bothell;
  • US export control rules apply and require confirmation of work authorization status.
