Job Description

Job Title: Staff Physicist - Product System Integration. Location: Bothell, Washington, USA

You will support full system integration by working closely with optical, mechanical, and electrical engineering teams; The job requires hands-on work with complex hardware and the ability to optimize system-level performance for next-generation quantum computers.

Duties:

  • Act as a technical lead for testing, integration, and commissioning of trapped ion quantum computers.
  • Build and improve tools, workflows, and documentation to accelerate system validation and verification.
  • Support system design, modeling, assembly, and characterization of trapped ion hardware;
  • Measure, review, and interpret system data to evaluate quantum computer performance.
  • Identify root causes of functional or performance issues using holistic system knowledge, then collaborate with subsystem teams to resolve them.
  • Work with optical and mechanical engineers to develop and integrate tooling that improves alignment, stability, and system reliability;
  • Participate in optical, mechanical, and electrical integration tasks with cross-functional teams.
  • Travel as needed to support remote builds and system commissioning efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or PhD in optical engineering, electrical engineering, applied physics, or a related field.
  • More than 6 years of experience in quantum control or sensing, preferably involving trapped ions or neutral atoms.
  • Experience with Python or Javascript;
  • Strong hands-on approach and ability to work directly with hardware and system setups.
  • Experience aligning and characterizing diffraction-limited optical systems and interferometers is a strong advantage.
  • More than 10 years of experience leading development of complex optical systems is preferred;
  • Experience with optomechanical systems, ultra-high vacuum, ion traps, cryogenic systems, or related technologies.

Benefits and Instructions:

  • Salary range: $147,336 to $192,901 per year, with bonus, equity, and a full benefits package.
  • Compensation depends on experience, skills, and market conditions;

  • This is an onsite role at the Bothell, Washington facility;
