Job Description

Job Title: Sr. Advanced AMO Theorist - 393. Location: Broomfield, CO, USA (Hybrid with up to 2 days remote per week)

This role combines theoretical physics, quantum computing hardware expertise, and collaboration with experimental teams to drive innovations in high-fidelity quantum systems.

Duties:

• Work closely with theorists and experimentalists to model trapped-ion quantum processors.
• Measure, characterize, and improve quantum computing hardware performance.
• Develop and implement best scientific practices across the theory team;
• Communicate results through publications, presentations, and internal reporting.
• Lead and manage research projects, coordinating with team members and external partners.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field with a background in atomic physics and/or quantum benchmarking.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant research experience (including PhD).
• Knowledge of trapped-ion quantum computers and quantum computing hardware.
• Strong theoretical physics skills and proven problem-solving abilities;
• Experience collaborating with experimentalists and leading research teams.
• Excellent written and oral communication, with published results;
• Must be a U.S. Person (citizen, permanent resident, asylum, or refugee).
• Due to national security requirements, not a citizen of China or Russia unless also a U.S. citizen.

• Salary range: $140,000–$175,000 per year, based on skills, experience, and qualifications.
