Staff Field Engineer - Quantum Applications

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Staff Field Engineer - Quantum Applications - Europe. Location: Oxford, England, United Kingdom (remote or hybrid in Europe available)

Job Type: Full-time, customer-facing, hybrid or remote

Responsibilities:

• Lead client discussions and help translate business needs into quantum algorithm solutions
• Design and execute proof-of-concept projects with clients across industries such as finance, biotech, chemistry, optimization, and AI
• Map real-world problems into quantum application workflows using SDKs and frameworks;
• Communicate IonQ’s quantum platform capabilities across computing, networking, security, and sensing
• Move opportunities from ideation to proof-of-concept and production use cases
• Collaborate with product, engineering, marketing, and business teams to improve quantum offerings
• Collect and share client feedback to guide product and algorithm development;
• Create technical demos and materials explaining quantum applications and solutions
• Represent the company at industry events and conferences

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of professional experience or equivalent in quantum computing, algorithms, or related technical fields
• Master’s or PhD in Quantum Computing, Physics, Computer Science, or related discipline
• Hands-on experience with quantum SDKs such as Qiskit, Cirq, or similar tools;
• Strong experience in translating technical concepts into business solutions
• Experience in algorithm development, optimization, or applied quantum research
• Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred:

• Experience in customer-facing technical roles or solution architecture
• Background in industries such as finance, biosciences, chemistry, or materials science
• Experience designing full-stack quantum application workflows;
• Experience leading technical workshops, demos, or industry presentations
• Strong understanding of optimization, simulation, or machine learning applications in quantum computing
