Job Title: Device Operations Director at Oxford Ionics. Location: Oxford, England, United Kingdom
Oxford Ionics, part of IonQ, is pioneering the next generation of quantum computing using world-leading trapped-ion technology; We are building powerful, accurate, and reliable quantum systems to solve problems beyond the reach of today’s supercomputers.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and grow the Device Operations Team responsible for Quantum Processing Units (QPUs), managing production, testing, and delivery.
- Define and develop device packaging and manufacturing test processes across internal and external fabrication partners.
- Ensure prototypes and QPU devices are delivered on time and meet high-quality standards.
- Set technical direction, shape team culture, and mentor junior staff;
- Collaborate with colleagues across engineering and operations to plan capability, select external partners, and allocate resources.
- Manage supplier relationships and production timelines, balancing rapid prototyping with long-term device reliability.
Qualifications:
- Strong technical background in device packaging and fabrication, with experience taking devices from prototype to early production.
- Proven leadership experience managing technical teams in complex projects.
- Significant experience in microelectronics, photonics, or related sectors;
- Knowledge of supply-chain management across fabrication and packaging stages.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with adaptability to a fast-moving environment.
Preferred:
- Hands-on expertise in device fabrication and prototype delivery.
- Experience with QPU production or low-volume manufacturing in a quantum hardware context.
- Familiarity with managing industrial fabrication partners and complex manufacturing workflows.
