Photonics Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Photonics Engineer. Location: Palo Alto, California, United States

This role focuses on advanced photonic device modeling, data-driven design, and close collaboration with system architects, foundry partners, and testing teams to scale fault-tolerant quantum systems.

Duties:

• Collaborate with architecture teams to define system specifications and develop photonic integrated circuit screening plans.
• Perform data-driven modeling of photonic devices and circuits;
• Design and optimize complex multi-component photonic circuits.
• Analyze experimental and simulation data to evaluate photonic circuit performance.
• Develop and deploy software tools for photonic design, modeling, and data analysis;
• Work with foundry and testing teams to validate, screen, and improve photonic circuits.
• Support continuous improvement of photonic design workflows and performance metrics.

Qualifications:

• PhD or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science.
• At least 5 years of academic or industry experience in integrated photonics.
• Strong analytical and computational skills for photonic device design and evaluation.
• Deep knowledge of photonic devices, performance metrics, and testing techniques;
• Advanced proficiency in Python for scientific computing, automation, and software development.
• Hands-on experience with commercial electromagnetic and photonic design software tools.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
• Experience with Mathematica, AWS services, SQL, or parallel computing is a plus.

Benefits and Instructions:

• U.S. base salary range: $130,000–$145,000 USD.
• Bay Area salary range: $150,000–$170,000 USD.
