Photonic Layout Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Photonic Layout Engineer. Location: Palo Alto, California, United States

This position plays a key role in scaling high-performance silicon photonics using advanced semiconductor manufacturing processes.

Duties:

• Design, optimize, and verify photonic integrated circuits for quantum computing systems.
• Collaborate with device, hardware, and software teams on quantum optics and photonic system development.
• Support foundry tape-outs, including layout, verification, design of experiments, and PDK development.
• Develop layout infrastructure and automation tools using Python-based workflows;
• Produce clear and complete documentation for photonic designs and tape-outs.
• Work across teams, locations, and time zones to support large-scale system development.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Materials Science, or Physics.
• At least two years of academic or industry experience in integrated photonics and layout design.
• Strong understanding of photonic device and circuit design and characterization;
• Proven experience with Python for numerical analysis, automation, and photonic layout.
• Experience with Git or similar collaborative code management tools.
• Hands-on knowledge of silicon photonic manufacturing processes and foundry tape-outs.
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Benefits and Instructions:

• Base salary range: $130,000–$145,000 USD (outside Bay Area).
• Bay Area salary range: $150,000–$170,000 USD.
