IBM Quantum Algorithm Engineer

Job Description

Job Title: Quantum Algorithm Engineer. Location: Tokyo, Japan

Responsibilities:

• Work with researchers and engineers to analyze and optimize quantum computing performance on advanced systems
• Collaborate with software and product teams to test and improve new platform capabilities
• Develop and implement production-quality software across the quantum stack
• Support developers and users through workshops, tutorials, and technical content
• Deliver technical lectures for audiences ranging from beginners to experts;
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to solve complex, multi-team challenges
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of quantum algorithms and industry advancements

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Physics, Computer Science, or a related field
• 4+ years of experience in quantum computing, including running algorithms on real hardware
• Strong programming skills in Python and Qiskit
• Deep understanding of quantum computing systems across software, middleware, and hardware
• Strong communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills;
• Experience in analyzing and improving quantum hardware performance, including transpilation and error mitigation
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
• Fluency in both Japanese and English

Preferred:

• PhD in Physics, Computer Science, or a related field
• Strong knowledge of quantum algorithms for near-term applications
• Experience with real quantum processors and system-level modeling
• Understanding of benchmarking techniques across different hardware systems
• Experience with hybrid quantum and classical computing integration;
• Software development experience including debugging, testing, and CI/CD
• Experience working with product, sales, or cross-functional teams
• Experience in research collaborations or customer-facing roles
