In-house Patent Attorney

Job Description

Job Title: In-house Patent Attorney / Patent Specialist. Location: United Kingdom, Germany

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with inventors to identify, evaluate, and protect valuable innovations.
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications across diverse technical areas.
  • Build strong partnerships with technical teams.
  • Coordinate effectively with external patent counsel;
  • Support the growth, management, and continuous improvement of the patent portfolio.
  • Provide IP guidance and education to internal stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve IP processes.
  • Anticipate challenges, recommend solutions, and escalate issues when appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Physics, Mathematics, Computing Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience drafting and prosecuting patents before a Patent Office.
  • Registration as a European Patent Attorney or equivalent certification is an asset.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and sound judgment;
  • Clear and effective communication skills with the ability to adapt to different audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated initiative, accountability, and a solutions-oriented mindset.

Experience Levels:

  • Senior Patent Specialist: Typically 4+ years of relevant experience, with the ability to independently manage patent matters, apply sound judgment, and contribute to patent drafting, prosecution, IP practices, and quantum technology expertise.
  • Lead Patent Specialist: Typically 6+ years of relevant experience, with demonstrated expertise managing complex patent matters, patent drafting and prosecution, improving IP practices, and collaborating across technical and business teams.
