Research Scientist - Quantum Intern

Job Description

Job Title: Research Scientist - Quantum Engineering Intern (m/f/x). Location: Ehningen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

The role provides hands-on experience in both scientific and industrial quantum computing projects, contributing to open-source tools, research papers, and IBM products.

Duties:

  • Support research in quantum circuit transpilation and quantum error mitigation algorithms.
  • Develop and test algorithms to advance utility-scale quantum computing.
  • Participate in cross-disciplinary projects alongside IBM Quantum researchers.
  • Contribute to software development for quantum computing applications;
  • Document research findings, prepare reports, and collaborate on publications or open-source contributions.

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in an MSc program in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field focused on quantum computing.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and solve complex problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Experience with the Qiskit SDK and quantum algorithm development preferred;
  • Exposure to quantum error mitigation or quantum circuit transpilation techniques is a plus.
  • Background in software development and programming is beneficial.
