Software Engineer - Cloud Platform

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Staff Software Engineer - Cloud Platform. Location: Basel, Basel-Stadt, Switzerland

This role focuses on creating reliable and scalable cloud services that make quantum computing easy to access through partner platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure; You will work with engineers, scientists, and product teams to deliver a best-in-class quantum developer experience.

Duties:

• Design and lead the architecture of highly available and fault-tolerant cloud systems.
• Build and maintain microservices that power IonQ’s quantum cloud offerings.
• Define, develop, and deploy APIs that allow customers to run quantum jobs at scale.
• Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines for continuous deployment and reliability;
• Integrate IonQ services with external cloud providers including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
• Design and improve quantum job processing pipelines for customer workloads.
• Implement secure authentication, authorization, and role-based access control systems.
• Design and extend billing systems for usage tracking, cost reporting, and rate cards.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across teams;
• Participate in on-call rotations to support production systems.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience;
• Strong experience building large-scale cloud platforms and distributed systems.
• Proficiency with Go, Rust, and JavaScript.
• Hands-on experience with message queues such as Kafka or Google Pub/Sub.
• Experience with OAuth, OpenID, and SAML-based authentication systems;
• Ability to design secure, scalable user interfaces, services, and data access layers.
• Familiarity with quantum computing concepts and cloud-based quantum platforms.
• Experience with Kubernetes, relational databases, and modern frontend frameworks is a plus.
