System Reliability Engineer - Quantum Computing

Job Title: System Reliability Engineer - Quantum Computing. Location: Cambridge, UK

This role focuses on keeping a cloud platform for quantum researchers reliable, secure, and high performing; You will work on large-scale distributed systems so that running experiments on quantum computers feels as simple as sending an email.

Duties:

• Manage and improve managed Kubernetes environments used by Quantinuum Nexus.
• Own system architecture with a focus on reliability, performance, security, and cost.
• Use tools such as Helm, Karpenter, and k9s to operate and scale production systems.
• Collect logs, traces, and metrics using OpenTelemetry and AWS services;
• Analyze monitoring data to detect issues and guide system improvements.
• Respond to incidents and outages by monitoring, diagnosing, and reporting root causes.
• Read and understand production code and link system behavior to monitoring data.
• Work closely with developers to resolve issues quickly and improve system stability.
• Improve infrastructure using declarative Infrastructure as Code tools.

Qualifications:

• Strong experience with Kubernetes and Docker in production environments.
• Experience operating distributed systems with strict uptime requirements.
• Hands-on experience with monitoring tools such as AWS CloudWatch and X-Ray.
• Experience improving Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform;
• Professional experience using Python in production systems.
• Ability to debug issues across infrastructure, services, and application code.
• Experience with log, trace, and metric collection for cloud systems.
