Job Description

Job Title: Internship at Quantinuum’s UK QEC team. Location: London, UK; Cambridge, UK

This position provides hands-on experience with trapped-ion hardware, software development, and quantum algorithms, bridging theoretical research with practical applications; The internship is ideal for students or recent graduates seeking to deepen their understanding of fault-tolerant quantum computing.

Duties:

  • Contribute to an active research project under the guidance of Quantinuum QEC experts.
  • Develop software libraries or write research papers that support QEC advancements.
  • Participate in QEC team activities including discussions, journal clubs, and seminars.
  • Work on areas such as algebraic geometry, tensor networks / ZX calculus, QEC code automorphisms, classical simulation of non-Clifford fault-tolerant gadgets, compact magic state preparation, and partially fault-tolerant techniques;
  • Demonstrate small-scale fully fault-tolerant quantum algorithms on Quantinuum’s trapped-ion hardware.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Python for scientific computing and programming.
  • Experience with high-speed programming languages such as C++, Julia, or Rust is desirable.
  • Ability to communicate scientific ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing;
  • Research experience or publications in quantum error correction or related areas are a plus.
